Our Mission

We are a children’s charity dedicated to improving 2nd Grade literacy at Title One schools in the Greater Houston area

We envision every student in the Greater Houston area achieving grade-level reading or above by the end of 3rd grade, putting them on the path to success and empowering them to reach their full potential in school and life.

We give young students the opportunity to earn a bicycle for achieving their set goals, and in return, they learn that hard work equals reward. We believe that learning this lesson can put school children on the path to a brighter future.

Get to Know Us

We originally started in 2000 as a Christmas-time gift-giving initiative for children in need. In 2004, we became a 501(c)(3) registered charity. After realizing that one of the greatest gifts for a child was a bicycle, our focus shifted from gift-giving to awarding bicycles for academic achievement as we begin working directly with School Districts. CYCLE was then born in 2015 and we have been committed as a children’s charity to improving literacy among children in Grade 2 in Title One schools of the Greater Houston area.

CYCLE is a children’s charity that rewards students with new bicycles for achieving better academic performance in the classroom

Only 37% of HISD third-graders hit Texas reading standards in 2013. Statistics like this are not uncommon throughout Greater Houston, but we are working hard to change these figures one bike at a time. With our bicycle programs, we encourage children to be active physically and mentally, empowering them to improve their literacy and possibly break the cycle of poverty.

The Facts

"Children who reach fourth grade without being able to read proficiently are more likely to drop out of high school, reducing their earning potential and chances for success."

THE ANNIE E. CASEY FOUNDATION

"72% of Texas students in 4th grade have a below proficient reading level."
